My Campaign - Why You Should Vote KAGAN

ITS TIME FOR A FRESH NEW START IN COUNTY COURT AT LAW #1

My name is Jerry Kagan and I was originally licensed to practice law in Illinois in 1992. About three years later, I studied    for and took the Michigan Bar exam and was licensed to practice law in Michigan in 1995.

In 1998, I visited San Antonio.  I fell in love with San Antonio and fell in love with my soon to be wife, Angela Marie Garcia   who is a San Antonio native.  I studied for and took the Texas Bar exam and was licensed to practice law in Texas in

January, 1999.

In short, I took three different Bar Exams for three different states on three different dates and passed all three on the first try.   That’s why I say that I work harder.

In addition to the cases I handled in Illinois and Michigan, I have handled cases in Bexar, Comal, Guadalupe, Atascosa, Wilson, Kendall, Gonzales, Cauldwell, Brazos, Karnes, Maverick, Galveston, Zavalla and other counties. Click on my

photos of courthouses I have done cases at.

This unique perspective of being in many, many different courts in different counties and different states over the past twenty-two years has given me a unique perspective of how things are done in different places, by different courts and by different judges.

Each Judge is different, each county is different, each case and each person is different.  I do not believe in a cookie cutter approach where each situation is treated exactly the same as the one before it and the next one after it.  Let me explain.  Some judges treat a middle-aged business professional who has never been in trouble in his life, the same way as a 19

year old gang member who has a three page rap sheet, a drug habit and a bad attitude.

If we treated every situation the same without regard to special circumstances, severity of the case, criminal history or

harm inflicted, we wouldn’t need judges at all.  We would just make the same ruling over and over again without regard to the specific situation at hand.  A judge has to listen to the facts and circumstances, not just look down at the paperwork to see what type of case it is.

Contrast my experience with a life–long prosecutor who has only practiced her craft in ONE County or in one courtroom year after year who is set and stuck in her ways.  Who would you rather have imposing punishment if you or your friend, relative or neighbor were the victim of a crime?  Who would you rather have deciding a case that affects you?

The citizens of Bexar County deserve better than what they currently have in County Court at Law #1.  I have worked hard building up a successful and lucrative practice in my almost 19 years in San Antonio.  But, I am willing to close my practice that I have worked so hard to build, to become for judge in County Court at Law#1.  The people of Bexar County, the

place I love, deserve this from their elected officials.

The greatest compliment I could receive is if you voted for me, Jerry Kagan, in the 2018 Democratric Primary Election.

Success! Message received.
